How to Identify Your Recliner Motor System
Identifying the motor system in an electric recliner or lift chair is the first step to finding a compatible handset, power supply, control box, actuator or battery pack. Common systems include Okin, Kaidi, Limoss and Dewert. The brand name may appear on the motor, control box, handset or power supply, so check every component before ordering.
Step 1: Check the Motor or Actuator Label
Look underneath the chair for the actuator or motor attached to the recliner mechanism. Use a torch and take a clear photograph of the label before removing anything.
- Record the brand name, model number and any voltage or force information.
- Note the connector type and the number of pins.
- Photograph both ends of the actuator and the mounting brackets.
- Do not rely on the chair brand alone. Furniture manufacturers may use motors from a different component brand.
Step 2: Check the Control Box
The control box is usually located underneath the chair and connects the power supply, handset and one or more actuators.
- Look for an Okin, Kaidi, Limoss or Dewert label or logo.
- Record the control-box model number and output information.
- Count the sockets and note which cables connect to each socket.
- Photograph the control box and all connected plugs before disconnecting power.
Step 3: Check the Handset
The handset can identify the system, but it is not always enough on its own because visually similar handsets may use different wiring or control-box connections.
- Check the back of the handset for a printed brand or model number.
- Record the number of buttons and whether the handset includes USB, lighting or other controls.
- Photograph the handset face, back label, cable and connector.
- Match the replacement handset to the control system, connector and button layout, not just the appearance.
Common Recliner Component Brands
Okin
Okin components are commonly identified by an Okin logo or model number printed on the actuator, control box, handset or battery pack. Record the complete model number because similar-looking Okin parts may have different connectors or specifications.
Kaidi
Kaidi components may show Kaidi branding and a KDDY model number. Check the model label, plug type, pin arrangement and control-box connections before selecting a replacement.
Limoss
Limoss components may be identified by Limoss branding on the motor, control box, handset or battery pack. Record the complete model number and photograph the connector because product families can use different connections.
Dewert
Dewert components may carry Dewert branding and a model label on the actuator or control system. Check the motor specification, connector and control-box arrangement rather than matching the brand name alone.
Why the Chair Brand Is Not Enough
A lounge manufacturer or retailer may install a component system from Okin, Kaidi, Limoss, Dewert or another supplier. Two chairs with the same furniture brand can also have different motor systems, particularly when they were manufactured in different years or have different functions. Always identify the actual electrical components fitted to your chair.
Information to Send When Asking About a Replacement
- Photos of the motor or actuator label.
- Photos of the control box from all sides.
- Photos of every connector and cable end.
- Photos of the handset front, rear label and plug.
- The lounge or chair brand and model, if known.
- Whether the chair is a standard recliner, dual-motor recliner or lift chair.
- A description of the fault and which functions still operate.
