The label on a recliner motor or actuator contains the key specifications needed to find a compatible replacement. This guide explains what each field on the label means and how to use that information when ordering a replacement part.
Where to Find the Motor Label
- The label is usually printed on a sticker attached to the body of the actuator or motor.
- Look underneath the chair with a torch. The actuator is the cylindrical component attached to the recliner mechanism.
- On some chairs the label may be on the side or end of the actuator rather than the top.
- Photograph the label before removing the actuator. Labels can be damaged or lost during removal.
- If the label is worn or unreadable, photograph the actuator body, mounting brackets, cable and connector and send them to CouchGuard for identification assistance.
Key Specifications on the Label
Brand and Model Number
The brand name (Okin, Kaidi, Limoss, Dewert or another) and model number identify the specific actuator. Record the complete model number including any letters, numbers and suffixes. A single digit difference in the model number can indicate a different stroke length, force rating or connector type.
Stroke Length
Stroke length is the distance the actuator extends from its fully retracted position to its fully extended position. It is usually expressed in millimetres (mm). This is the most critical measurement for a replacement actuator — an incorrect stroke length will prevent the chair from reaching its full range of movement or cause the mechanism to over-extend.
- Common stroke lengths for recliners range from approximately 150mm to 450mm.
- Lift chair actuators often have longer strokes than standard recliner actuators.
- If the stroke length is not printed on the label, measure it manually by extending the actuator fully and measuring the travel distance of the inner tube.
Force Rating
Force rating indicates the maximum load the actuator can push or pull, expressed in Newtons (N) or kilograms (kg). This specification is particularly important for lift chair actuators, which must support body weight during the lift cycle.
- Standard recliner actuators typically have force ratings between 3000N and 6000N.

How to Measure Stroke Length Manually
- Disconnect the chair from mains power.
- Remove the actuator from the chair by releasing the clevis pins or mounting bolts at each end.
- Extend the actuator manually by pulling the inner tube out to its full travel.
- Measure the distance the inner tube has travelled from its retracted position to its fully extended position.
- This measurement is the stroke length.
- Also measure the overall retracted length from mounting hole to mounting hole.

- Brand name and complete model number from the label.
