Electric recliner and lift chair FAQs
What should I check if my recliner stops working?
Start with the wall outlet, power supply indicator, plugs, leads and handset. A chair that will not move does not necessarily need a new motor. Check for loose or damaged connections before replacing parts, and see our recliner troubleshooting guide.
Why is my electric recliner completely dead?
The outlet, power supply, a disconnected or damaged lead, or the handset may be responsible. Confirm the outlet works and inspect the connections with power disconnected. Match the original model, voltage, plugs and wiring before buying a replacement.
Why is my lift chair not lifting or lowering?
Possible causes include power loss, a loose lead, handset or actuator fault, or a mechanical obstruction. Stop operating the chair if movement is uneven, noisy or blocked. See our lift chair troubleshooting guide.
Why is my recliner grinding or clicking?
An obstruction, loose hardware, worn mechanism or actuator under abnormal load may be responsible. Stop operating the chair until the cause is identified. Read our grinding and clicking guide.
Recliner battery FAQs
How do I choose the right battery pack?
Match your chair's voltage, plugs, charging arrangement and power supply. Similar-looking connectors are not proof of compatibility. See our battery buyer's guide or send photos of your labels and plugs.
Will a battery pack work during a power outage?
A compatible, charged pack can provide backup operation. Runtime varies with battery capacity and condition, chair functions and connected accessories. Check the exact setup before ordering.
How do I install a recliner battery pack?
Disconnect mains power, match every plug and follow the instructions for your exact chair and battery. See our battery installation guide.
Choosing and identifying recliner parts
How do I identify the correct motor or actuator?
Compare the original manufacturer's model, voltage, stroke, installation length, mounts, plugs, wiring and any sensors or extra leads. Chair brand alone is not enough. See how to read a motor label.
Are motors, handsets and power supplies universal?
No. Some kits support multiple setups, but individual parts are not universally interchangeable. Match the exact electrical specifications, functions, connector layout and wiring, even when the replacement looks similar.
How do I identify a plug or connector?
Compare pin count, shape, keying, locking tab, lead arrangement and part label. Do not rely on colour alone. Our connector guide explains what to check.
How do I choose a handset or switch?
Start with the original model and compare every button and function, plug, pin layout and wiring. Extra functions such as headrest, lumbar, heat, massage, lighting or USB matter. Read our handset and switch guide.
Why might a complete audio control kit be better than a head unit alone?
When an audio system fails, the fault could be in the head unit, associated wiring or another connected part. A matching complete kit avoids buying the head unit on a guess. Confirm your original system and the likely fault first; a problem outside the kit still needs separate diagnosis.
Leather care and repair FAQs
Which leather care products should I use?
Identify the leather and finish first. Pigmented or finished leather and aniline leather need different cleaners, repair products and colours. Follow the specific product instructions and test on a small hidden area.
What leather types are easy to confuse?
Aniline and pigmented leather can be confused, and some coated materials look like natural leather. Choose by the material and finish, not colour alone.
What DIY leather repair mistakes should I avoid?
Do not skip preparation or colour testing, apply heavy coats, or mix incompatible fillers and dyes. Alcohol-based leather dye can soften some filler or repair resin. Use a system suited to your leather type.
Can leather filler be used for every repair?
No. Filler or repair resin may suit some pigmented leather repairs but not every finish or colouring system. Aniline repairs need different products. Check the instructions before starting.
See our leather care guide and leather repair directions.
Fabric and upholstery care FAQs
Which fabrics can CouchGuard fabric care products treat?
Products are intended for suitable water-safe upholstery, including many couches, man-made suedes, microfibres, linens, rugs and carpets. Always test a hidden area first; stop if the test changes colour or texture.
Can Fabric Protector be used on rugs or carpets?
Yes, on new or freshly cleaned rugs and carpets suitable for water-based treatment. Test a hidden area first.
How long does Fabric Protector take to dry?
Allow at least one hour under suitable conditions. Thick application, humidity, airflow and fabric type can extend drying time.
How long does Fabric Protector last?
Approximately 18 to 24 months in general; wear, cleaning and use affect durability.

Product warranty FAQs
Do CouchGuard products have warranties?
Warranty terms vary by product and manufacturer. Check the exact product page, purchase date and order records.
What warranties apply to recliner actuators?
Current information lists 24 months for CouchGuard compatible actuators and genuine Okin and TiMOTION actuators, and 12 months for genuine Kaidi, eMoMo and Mulin actuators. Conditions apply; check the product page.
What warranties apply to recliner batteries?
6000mAh and 3950mAh packs purchased on or after 11 September 2026 have a two-year manufacturer warranty. The 2550mAh pack has a 12-month manufacturer warranty. Check the exact product page and purchase date.
Brands, manufacturers and suppliers
Are CouchGuard's stocked branded parts genuine?
Yes. CouchGuard is an authorised dealer for RMT and SUTA; Okin supplies Okin products; and Mulin is its own brand. We focus on identifiable model numbers, specifications, connectors and functions.
Does the chair brand alone confirm compatibility?
No. A furniture brand may use different systems between models and production runs. Compare the original component's label, ratings, connections, wiring and functions.
Common misconceptions
If a replacement looks the same, will it fit?
Not necessarily. Similar-looking parts can have different pin layouts, wiring, voltages, buttons or actuator strokes. Compare the complete specification.
Is the lowest advertised item price always the cheapest option?
No. Compare the full delivered price, including shipping at checkout.
Should I replace the motor first if the chair stops?
Not without checking the power supply, plugs, leads and handset. These can cause similar symptoms. Identify the failed part before ordering.
